Lip Before & After Photo Guide on Long Island
- Understand what a treatment photograph can show.
Before-and-after photographs should help you understand what a treatment can do—not sell you an unrealistic promise.
A clinical result is most useful when you know what was treated, how the patient was photographed, and when the follow-up occurred.
A combination case should identify every treated area.
A combination result cannot be attributed to one injection.
Why a tight lip crop can miss context
Context matters.
A very tight close-up can make it easier to see lip detail.
But it can also hide the facial context that helps you understand whether a result actually looks balanced.
When you assess a result, look for:
1.The lips close up
2.The mouth while smiling
3. The profile
4. The surrounding lower face
5. The full face when relevant
A lip flip result should show a smile.
Lip flip is fundamentally a movement treatment.
A relaxed before-and-after photograph alone cannot tell the whole story.
For a lip-flip result, the most useful comparison includes:
| Before — relaxed | Before — full smile |
| After — relaxed | After — full smile |
That allows you to see whether more of the upper lip remains visible during expression.
A gummy-smile result should show the gums.
The purpose of gummy-smile treatment is to change excessive upper-lip elevation when muscle activity is contributing to visible gum show.
So the most useful result is not a neutral facial photograph.
We need to see the patient’s full smile.
A meaningful gummy-smile comparison should show the smile before treatment and the smile after the neuromodulator has taken effect.
A lip filler result should show more than “bigger.”
When evaluating lip filler before-and-after photographs, look beyond volume.
- Consider:
- Upper-to-lower lip balance
- Cupid’s bow
- Vermilion border
- Symmetry
- Projection
- Profile
- Relationship to the rest of the face
- And most importantly:
Did the treatment accomplish what that patient actually wanted?
One patient’s ideal lip may be barely changed.
Another patient may specifically want visibly fuller lips.
The result should be judged against the treatment goal—not against one universal lip shape.
- SUBTLE RESULTS COUNT TOO
A dramatic transformation is not automatically a better result.
Some of the most successful lip treatments may be difficult for another person to identify.
A patient may have wanted:
- slightly more upper-lip volume;
- better Cupid’s-bow definition;
- a small asymmetry softened;
- or simply a little more balance.
If subtle was the treatment goal, subtle is a successful result.
- WHAT ABOUT ASYMMETRY?
Human faces are not mirror images.
How to read a before-and-after photograph
Look for consistency before you look for transformation.
- lighting;
- camera angle;
- facial expression;
- head position;
- distance from the camera;
- crop; and
- image quality.
A smile in the after photograph should not be compared with a relaxed mouth in the before photograph unless the difference in expression is the actual purpose of the demonstration.
Likewise, dramatic differences in lighting, makeup, head position, or camera distance can make a result appear larger than it really is.
Better photography creates a more honest comparison.
Timing matters.
A photograph taken immediately after lip filler may show swelling.
A photograph taken before a neuromodulator has fully developed may underestimate its result.
And a photograph taken long after treatment represents a different point in the treatment cycle.
That is why we believe the follow-up interval belongs with the result.
When you view a documented case, look for when the after photograph was taken.
The timing is part of the story.
DON’T JUDGE FILLER FROM AN IMMEDIATE AFTER PHOTO
Freshly injected lips may contain swelling that exaggerates apparent volume.
Look for appropriately timed follow-up photographs. Immediate post-injection swelling can exaggerate apparent volume.
More treatment does not automatically mean a better result.
A 100-unit neurotoxin plan may involve multiple treatment areas.
That is a comprehensive facial treatment plan.
It does not mean that a lip flip, gummy smile, or DAO treatment requires 100 units.
At LIPS NY:
Botox or Xeomin — $9.50 per unit
10-unit minimum — $95 minimum treatment
100 units of toxin — $800
Results vary because faces vary.
Two people can receive treatment for the same concern and have different results.
- starting anatomy;
- lip size and shape;
- age;
- treatment history;
- amount used; and
- muscle strength;
- tissue characteristics;
- previous filler or toxin;
- product selection;
- individual response.
Before-and-after photographs are examples—not guarantees.
Inspiration photos are welcome.
If you see a result you like, show us.
The useful question is not:
“Can you give me her lips?”
It is:
“What do I like about this result?”
Maybe you like:
- the amount of upper-lip show;
- the definition of the Cupid’s bow;
- the subtle volume;
- the reduction in gum show;
- the softer mouth corners;
- or simply
- that the result doesn’t look overdone.
That tells us much more about what you want.
We use the inspiration to understand your goal—not to turn your anatomy into som
A useful photo starts with a treatment goal.
- Sometimes the goal is:
More volume.
- Sometimes:
More upper lip.
- Sometimes:
Less gum show.
- Sometimes:
Less downward pull.
- Sometimes:
Better definition.
- And sometimes:
Undo what was done before.
Different problem. Different plan. Different result.
